Charlie & Mae
My name is Mae and this is me and my dog Charlie. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on February 27, 2014 (at the age of 5). It has been a lot of hard work to learn about Type One Diabetes and how it affects my body. I have to take 4-5 insulin shots a day as well as test my glucose levels many times (I finally have a continuous glucose monitor and that helps a lot!) Always watching my highs and lows is tough. That's how we came up with The hi-low? Project. Everyone is always asking me "Mae, do you feel high? Mae, do you feel low?" It has become part of my daily conversation. So we thought placing hi-low? on stylish clothing and accessories would be a great way to raise awareness!
Charlie is our yellow lab. I always wanted a dog! When I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes my mom and dad thought that having a dog would be a special companion for me. Charlie is not a medical dog but some dogs are used for people with T1D and can help detect when their levels drop dangerously low or spike too high.
I wanted to come up with an idea to help raise awareness for T1D. 10% of all gross profits from the sales of Charlie & Mae product will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Thanks so much for visiting!
